Handicap System

MyGolfLeagueManager provides a wide range of options for a league's Handicap System.  By default, Handicaps are not used.  However, configuring the Handicap System is easily accomplished using the Handicap Wizard.  The Handicap System can be configured until the first results are entered.

Using the Handicap Wizard

  1. Select Settings > Handicap System from the league menu.
  2. Select Configure Handicap System from the Tools menu to start the Handicap Wizard.
  3. Select the option that best describes your league's Handicap System.  The option selected here will determine which of the following steps are displayed.
  4. Select the number of holes for Handicap System.
  5. Select the number of a players most recent rounds that will be considered for the Handicap.  For example, the USGA Handicap Formula uses a players last 20 rounds played.
  6. Select the number of a players best scores to use.  3 options are available for determining the number of best scores to use:

    • An absolute number that never changes.  If a there are less total scores than this number, all scores are used.
    • A fraction of the total scores.  By default, the number of scores to use will be rounded down when the fraction does not result in a whole number.  If Round up is selected, the number of scores will be rounded up.
    • The USGA differentials to use table .
  7. Select the number of months that scores will remain valid.  Scores that are invalid are not considered in the Handicap Formula.  Select '0' if scores do not expire.
  8. Select the number of scores that a player must record before they are assigned a handicap index.
  9. Select whether or not a bonus modifier will be applied to handicap indexes.  The purpose of a bonus modifier is to give players an incentive to lower their handicaps.  For example, consider one player with a raw handicap index of 20 and one with a raw handicap index of 10.  After the bonus modifier is applied, the first player's handicap index would become 18 and the second player's handicap index would become a 9.  In effect, the second player is given a bonus relative to the first by losing only 1 stroke of their handicap index.
  10. Select whether scores from past seasons should be considered in the handicap calculation.
  11. Select how handicap indexes will be updated:

    • Automatically each time qualifying Weekly Play or Event results are entered.
    • Manually by a league adminstrator.  Select this option if your league has a custom handicap update schedule.
  12. Select whether MyGolfLeagueManager should automatically derive course (playing) handicaps for events that are played on Golf Course Tracks that have a different number of holes than the Handicap System.  This is done by halving or doubling a players handicap index and then calculating the course (playing) handicap.  A common scenario is when a league uses a 9 hole Handicap System for its weekly play but needs 18 hole course (playing) handicaps for events.
  13. Review the Handicap System summary.
  14. Click the Finish button to save the Handicap System configuration.

A detailed summary of the Handicap System is available for all league members to view.
